I also had very similar sentiments before taking astronomy. I knew nothing about the subject and felt it would be a challenge for me. At the end of the semester I undertook a research paper on the mysterious dark matter and dark energy. I find the whole idea the greater portion of the universe is a mystery, to be intriguing!
